Could we make it two out two? Too right we could...

Following on from last weekend's opening victory against Duke of Wellington, this morning saw Martin and Dunc take the lads into their next battle - and this time it was a trip to Westhoughton to take on Beeleys FC. We've never played these before but seeing that they ran our old mates at AFC Bolton close last Sunday, we were not going to take them lightly. But the mood in our camp is excellent right now and as the convoy set off from the Spar, the lads felt confident that they were going to be bringing these three points home to Breightmet. They were right to be...

When we got there, the clouds were out in abundance and the pitch was a nightmare to find - but the lads were straight out there warming up and looking like they meant business. And when the starting 11 was announced, it saw us go with the 4-5-1 that turns into a 4-3-3 when we've going forward. That meant no changes in the defence and the middle three of Taylor, Chaps and Curtis were there again. This time we elected to go with Ash and Ste in the wide-berths and Dillon was given the nod to play up top on his own. The bench had Yatesy, Kyle Bailey and Adam to choose from - and as the lads taped up their socks and smoked their last fags, it was 'game-face' time - and the message was clear. Just do exactly what you did last weekend without the silly mistakes. Out they trotted and as the whistle went to start the game, the Wanderers fans settled back to watch what proved to be an excellent 90 minutes or so of football...

Right from the start we were on the front-foot and some of our passing was first-class - crisp and on point - and when the first goal came, it was no surprise to anybody that it was us that got it. Chaps played a delightful 1-2 with Taylor and the ball was dinked in inch-perfectly to Curtis. He turned on a sixpence and snapped his shot away and the ball looped over his head - for him to somehow overhead kick it and there was Dillon to put it away expertly with a first-time finish. A great goal and we were 1-0 up already...

Martin was then forced into making a change early doors as Curtis had taken a knock - but what a replacement when you can bring players like Kyle Bailey off the bench. And it wasn't long after that we doubled our lead when Carl closed down their winger really quickly to chip in a gorgeous pass to Chap. He in turn cleverly flicked the ball into the path of Kyle and his first touch of the game saw him send two of their defenders for hot-dogs as they couldn't keep up with his footwork. At just the right time, he played in Ash who knocked it out of his feet and WHOLLOP! a left-footed rocket that raced past their keeper's desperate dive and nearly ripped the top corner of their net as it hit it! A stunning strike and we were now two goals to the good...

More changes were made when Yatesy and Adam replaced Taylor and Ste - in a move that saw Dillon come out to the right - and on we went. As usual, Locky was involved in some gentle debating with the locals and as he stood there on the half-way line, Kyle Bailey had the quick-thinking to set up our third goal. He went across and took a quick corner that was straight out of Trent Alexander-Arnold's textbook as he hit it low and hard towards the front post - and there was Dillon making a great, darting run to get to it and with a flick of his right boot, the ball nestled in the bottom corner of their net. Another class goal and at 3-0 up, we were flying now...

Dillon was brimming with confidence now and he went on a mazy run that left all of their players in his wake. He knocked it onto the sprinting Kyle Bailey and with his wand of a left foot, he smashed his shot into the back of the net with such force that it lifted at least three net-pegs out of the ground. Their keeper had no chance of stopping it. 4-0 and surely that was the points in the bag before the break....

Half-time: Beeleys FC 0-4 BREIGHTMET WANDERERS AFC

These are the easiest of half-time team talks really. No changes needed to be made and no real words needed to be spoken. The lads knew that they had done well out there but the pleasing thing is that they also knew they could raise it still more - and that's the frightening thing about our squad this season. But let's be clear - the home side would come out of the traps quickly - so we needed to remain focus and not give them anything that would let them believe there was a way back into this. Go out there and give us more of the same and that will be more than enough. The drinks were gulped down and they were quickly back out there ready to go again...

And were we ready? Oh my days! Carl and Craig were switching the ball from side to side with ease and one such move saw them feed the ball into Adam - who took on his man and slid it into Kyle who in turn played in Chaps. First-time, he spread a glorious pass out to the on-rushing Craig and looking just like a 'Fat Cafu', our right-back threading a delightful pass into Yatesy who was racing past his marker. Last season's top scorer doesn't mess around in these areas and he made no mistake in slamming past the advancing keeper and into the back of the net. 5-0 and we were well on top at this stage...

Dillon was rampant and every time he got the ball, he was causing them nightmares with his silky skills and tricky feet. He linked up superbly with Craig on the right and as the ball came into Taylor, he neatly gave it him back - and Dillon flicked it into the path of Yatesy and WHACK! His brace and we were now 6-0 up. This was turning into a good day at the office that's for sure...

We weren't finished there. Not by a long shot. Chappell and Wilson combined superbly for the former to release a 'Gerrard-esque' throughball in front of the sprinting Yatesy. Let's be honest - with 25 minutes to go, our No, 9 isn't the type of player you want to be chasing back towards your own goal. Their defenders couldn't get near him and from just inside the box, he slammed his shot into the back of their net. 7-0..

There was still more. Because our eighth goal of the game was truly made in 'Defenceville' as it involved three of our back-line. Carl went over to take a corner and although it looked as though he had overhit it, there was our captain Locky who wasn't prepared to let it go - and he leaped like a prized salmon to knock it into the path of his defensive partner Johnny B. He took a touch and smashed it into the roof of the net from about 8 yards out. It comes to something when all three of them are involved in the same goal let us tell you. 8-0 and we were buoyant now...

With the travelling faithful calling for double-figures, we kept pouring forward and our ninth goal was started by a crunching tackle by Ryan - who then fed it into Adam. He saw the gazelle that is Ste Palin making his move and played the ball expertly - for Ste to check inside and found Dillon in space. Apparently Dillon 'meant' his header forward and as he cut inside his full-back, he played the ball across the box into the path of Kyle Bailey and the rest is history. He slammed his shot to the keeper's left and it whistled past him and into the bottom corner of his net. A superb goal to round off our scoring for the day - and at 9-0, this is more than Martin and Dunc could have hoped for when they woke up this morning...

The lads were rightly praised as they came off and each to a man, they had done their jobs out there today. Dillon was awarded the Phoenix Tax Services Man of the Match and he could have easily grabbed himself a hat-trick to go with his three assists. His all-round game was superb and with his confidence bubbling like that - and his positivity towards his team-mates - the lad's done well today. We're well happy for him. They can all go home knowing that put in a performance there - and start focusing on next weekend's visit of Middleton Lads & Girls....

Martin was quite clearly delighted and for once, he struggled. He gathered his composure and said "Wow. Well what can I say? I'm speechless for a change (what did we say eh?) The boys have been excellent all pre-season and now we are purring after our first two league games. Today we were simply unstoppable and all praise must go to those 14 players out there. They were outstanding from Enty in net - who still had to stay focused - to the lads that came on and off the bench. All that's left for me to say is 'ding-dang-do!'" and with that he was off...

So another Sunday. Another three points. Standard. Make sure you check out the videos that will be posted later and make sure you check out the league table. See whose top? Oh yeah - it's us!
